Powell counting his blessings

Chris Powell was happy after a "tricky game" at Exeter saw Charlton win 1-0 to go nine points clear at the top of League One.

The only goal of a scrappy encounter at St James Park on Saturday came 10 minutes into the second half as Danny Green's cross was fumbled into his own goal by Exeter goalkeeper Artur Krysiak. Powell said: "It is three welcome points for us and I felt over the 90 minutes that we just shaded it. But we needed to up the tempo second half and we certainly got that. It is another clean sheet for us. "These are the games that are quite tricky - everyone expects you to win them because of our position and their position in the table. But they always play good football here and it was difficult game for us, but negotiated well." On the goal, Powell added: "He's claiming it. I'm not too worried how it goes in as long as it goes in for us. I think he was there to cross it, but they all count. "It was positive play by him, whether it is a cross or a shot. We were under pressure during the last 15 minutes, but my defence stood firm and it was a welcome three points."
