Gradi tips Leitch-Smith to shine

Crewe boss Dario Gradi is adamant Ajay Leitch-Smith's best is still to come after he helped end AFC Wimbledon's five-match unbeaten run.

The 21-year-old striker and defender Adam Dugdale were on target in the space of nine crucial second-half minutes as Crewe got back to winning ways with a 3-1 triumph. The Railwaymen had taken the lead through teenager Nick Powell seconds after the restart only for Dons striker Christian Jolley, who missed a first-half sitter, to equalise 14 minutes later. And Gradi believes Leitch-Smith, a product of Crewe's flourishing youth set-up and who started just five games last season, is yet to show his true colours in League Two. "There's no-one better than Ajay in those goalscoring situations," Gradi said. "I thought he would score when he got the ball and he did. He is an important player for us and I think he is having a good season - he's certainly only going to get better the more the season goes on." Gradi added: "It was a super goal from Nick and Adam came up with a great header. We were under pressure during the first 20 minutes and we only took the pressure off because we had started to play better."
