Full-back requires surgery on ankle problem

Bristol City left-back Jamie McAllister has been sidelined for at least two months with an ankle injury. The 33-year-old sustained the damage in last Saturday's draw with Doncaster and will require surgery to rectify the problem. "I'm absolutely gutted," he told the club's official website. "I'd felt pain in the ankle and went to go and get an injection just to settle it down. "Sadly, I was told an injection wouldn't do anything for the problem and that I needed an operation. "This is the first operation I've required in my whole career. It's such a bad time, with the new season just underway, and I'll be working hard to get back as soon as possible." McAllister's injury may mean new loanee Ryan McGivern could be handed a debut in defence against Brighton on 10th September.
