Villa join chase for Hornets shot-stopper

Skysports.com understands Aston Villa and Manchester City are lining up moves for Watford's Scott Loach. Loach is highly rated and has twice been called into the England squad from the Under 21s this year. The 22-year-old's future has been the subject of speculation for some time with a number of Premier League clubs chasing his signature. Watford are facing a battle to keep hold of Loach when the transfer window reopens next month and they could be forced to cash in on their prize asset to ease their financial problems. Villa are thought to be in the market for a new goalkeeper with Gerard Houllier keen to bring in a long-term replacement for veteran shot-stopper Brad Friedel and Loach is believed to be on their wanted list. City are also considering a move for Loach as a possible replacement for unsettled star Shay Given. Given is hoping to leave City in the New Year after losing his first-team spot to Joe Hart this season and boss Roberto Mancini is considering his options. City have been keeping tabs on Loach's progress and could move for him to provide cover and competition for Hart should Given get his wish to leave Eastlands in January.
