Youngster joins Cumbrians on free transfer

Carlisle United have announced the signing of Republic of Ireland U21 international James Berrett on a free transfer. Berrett was out-of-contract after being released by Huddersfield Town at the end of last season. The 21-year-old has now penned a two-year contract with the Cumbrians, becoming their fifth capture of the summer. Cumbrians boss Greg Abbott said: "He's another that we've known about for a while and we think he has real potential. "We've seen and heard only good things about him and we're looking forward to working with him in the weeks and months ahead." Berrett, who came through Huddersfield's academy and made over 40 appearances for the Terriers, said: "The manager has made it clear that he wants to take this club forward and I'm looking forward to being part of that. "His message has been about working hard and improvement and it's made it an easy decision for me to come here. I'm really looking forward to what's a new challenge for me."
