Russell and Brooker in Robins switch

Alex Russell and Steve Brooker have agreed to join Cheltenham on loan from Bristol City. Midfielder Russell has made only one Championship appearance for Bristol City this season and spent three months on loan at Northampton earlier in the campaign. Striker Brooker has not featured for Gary Johnson's side for nearly a year after undergoing two knee operations, but had attracted the interest of 20 clubs according to his manager. Both managers feel that the deal will benefit the players and the clubs, as in a slightly uncommon manner Russell and Brooker will actually divide their training schedule between the two sides.

Johnson's view

"It will be good because they can both train with us for a few days in the week, and train with them the same," Johnson told Bristol City's official website. "It's local so we can keep an eye on them, and it's League One, so it's a good standard. "Keith Downing asked me about them a few months ago, and it wasn't possible then. It is now and everyone's happy."
Downing's thoughts
Cheltenham boss Downing has no problem with the way the deal will work, and admits that he is looking forward to getting the pair on board. "Both players have signed for a month initially and I've worked very closely with Gary Johnson, who has been tremendous with us," he told the club's official website. "Geographically it's a good move for the players as well and they are two players who have already performed well at this level so I am looking forward to working with them."
