Wolves manager Kenny Jackett felt his side's 2-0 Sky Bet Championship win against bottom of the table Blackpool at Molineux was the perfect tribute to the club's former owner Sir Jack Hayward.

Late goals from Dave Edwards and debutant Benik Afobe earned Wolves a fifth win from their last six games to keep them very firmly in the promotion race.

Wolves had celebrated the life of Sir Jack, who died at the age of 91 on Tuesday, before the game in front of a bumper crowd of 28,132 and Jackett said: "The fans turned out in great numbers for somebody who is a favourite son of both the city and the club.

"It was a great tribute before the game and it was a bumper crowd to remember and celebrate a fantastic life of someone who has made a big contribution to both the area and the club.

"It was very, very well handled by the club and Sir Jack's family. It was terrific to see the crowds come out in their numbers in terms of appreciation to a fantastic life and then after that as a head coach I am delighted we followed through with a good result and had a very, very buoyant stadium at the end."

Jackett was thankful to the fans for staying with the side as they toiled for the breakthrough which eventually came five minutes from time and he added: "The crowd stayed with us and we can say that we had to be patient.

"With the considerable possession we had, particularly in the first half, we didn't do enough with it and we didn't have a shot on target in the first period and that is poor.

"Dave Edwards got a key goal for us as the first goal in any game is important, particularly in the Championship.

"I was wondering where it was going to come from as it didn't look like we were creating clear cut chances."

Blackpool, who have not won away from home all season, had looked set to hold on for a hard earned point after well drilled display.

But Edwards, who had missed an excellent first-half chance, broke their resistance in the 86th minute when he forced home a cross from Rajiv Van La Parra.

Afobe, who had been signed from Arsenal on Wednesday, sealed the win three minutes later when he capitalised on a mix-up between Blackpool goalkeeper Joe Lewis and central defender Darren O'Dea to walk the ball into an empty net.

Despite a determined rearguard action, Blackpool manager Lee Clark was unhappy that his side did not carry more of a threat in front of goal.

He said: "We didn't do enough in possession of the ball in the second half.

"We didn't carry any threat. We never worked the goalkeeper enough.

"When you do that and there is constantly pressure on your back four, it is inevitable because with six minutes injury time you are going 51 minutes trying to play that way and it is difficult.

"I think we could have relieved the pressure by being more adventurous with the ball, being better with the ball, creating more problems in an attacking sense than we did.

"We did that in the first half but it just wasn't to be.

"Now we have to dust ourselves down, get ready and get working towards or next game against Watford and go again."
