Costa Rica international Jose Miguel Cubero will return to Blackpool this week hoping to put his injury troubles behind him.

The midfielder, who represented his country at the World Cup in Brazil, signed for the Seasiders over the summer but, after initially having to wait to make his debut due to international clearance problems, he has been restricted to just a pair of appearances in September.

Neither of those came under current boss Lee Clark but Cubero is hoping to provide the Tangerines manager with some positive news in the new year.

"I will be travelling back to England on Friday and should be ready to return to training," the 27-year-old said in quotes published in the Blackpool Gazette.

"I hope to be at my best and to play in the first or second week of January.

"I'm doing my recovery work in Costa Rica, after receiving permission from the coach and medical staff at Blackpool.

"The fitness coach of my national side has dealt with this injury in the past and so we felt it was best (to recuperate in Costa Rica).

"It's more than three weeks since I had my operation and it seems that things are going well."
