Blackpool have blocked Sheffield United's efforts to take striker Steven Davies on a short-term loan.

The 26-year-old has been restricted to just two substitute appearances this season, with untimely injuries leaving him frustrated on the sidelines.

It was expected that Blackpool would be open to the idea of allowing him to get some much-needed game time away from Bloomfield Road.

Nigel Clough was prepared to offer the former Derby County man those opportunities at Bramall Lane, but has seen his efforts to put a deal in place rebuffed.

United are refusing to accept that an agreement is completely off the table, but negotiations with Sky Bet Championship strugglers Blackpool have broken down.

Clough said: “It’s something we might well revisit at a later date.

“We talked to them and agreed to everything they wanted, but in the end they decided it wouldn’t be happening. You can never say never.”
