Lee Clark has been confirmed as the new manager of Championship club Blackpool.

Clark, who lost his job at Birmingham only last week, has signed a one-year rolling contract to succeed Jose Riga and arrives with Blackpool five points adrift at the bottom of the table.

The 42-year-old told Sky Sports News he has the backing of chairman Karl Oyston to enter the loan market ahead of the transfer window reopening in January.

He said: "There's possibilities to manoeuvre in the loan market and possibilities when the January market opens to do some business, but it's a tough market to work in in January because of inflated prices.

"But the chairman has said there are funds available for loans up until then and possible deals to be done in January if we see fit.

"From what I've seen in training it's a good group of players who want to work hard. There's lots of Championship experience there, so that's a good starting point for me.

"It's just a case fo trying to build up the belief again, get some momentum and some positive results. If we can get some momentum who knows, but the short-term target is to narrow the gap."

Chairman Oyston said: "We needed someone with experience of the Championship and that's what Lee brings to the club. Lee's done remarkably well in a difficult background at Birmingham.

"We needed someone to come in and organise us properly and bring in the structure, approach and positivity that we've been lacking. Results have demonstrated that.

"Lee is bright and positive and we're happy to support his plans for the squad moving forward."
