Sky Bet Championship: Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston insists protests won't work

Karl Oyston has told disgruntled Blackpool fans their protests against his running of the club "will never have any impact".

Swathes of Seasiders supporters made their feelings towards their chairman clear during last Friday's home win over Cardiff, which was televised live on Sky.

Supporters displayed banners and scarves which read 'Oyston Out' and many fled the ground during the second half in an act of defiance.

However, Oyston, who those peeved fans have accused of treating their club like a 'cash cow', has stressed he will not change the way he handles the club.

Speaking at a question and answer session with representatives from Blackpool Supporters Association this week, Oyston, who was asked if the protests would change him, replied: "No protest will ever have any impact, it can't.

"I'll carry on doing exactly the same as I always have."

Oyston, who also insisted he has no problems with those protestations - providing they are legal - also came under fire for his treatment of manager Jose Riga earlier in the season.

The Belgian has somehow remained at the helm despite Oyston's attempt to replace him with Burton's Gary Rowett in September.

But, on the back of their first win of the season over the Bluebirds, the Blackpool chairman is optimistic they can now embark on an upward trajectory.

The Tangerines remain in the bottom three, but Oyston added: "We are over the worst now, that's very important and whatever happens now we are in a better position internally.

"We will be improving our recruitment policy and learn from our recent problems.

"And, come what may, the club is in good shape."
