Midfielder happy with goal against Saints after loan move blocked

Chris Basham is eager to cement his place in the Blackpool team after admitting he is now glad he did not head out on loan last month. The midfielder has struggled for first-team football this season and was poised to join League One strugglers Chesterfield on loan last month. However, Ian Holloway blocked the move and Basham marked only his second Championship start of the campaign with a goal in Saturday's 2-2 draw at Southampton. The former Bolton Wanderers youngster was delighted to be involved at St Mary's and is eager to remain part of Seasiders boss Holloway's plans. "I was delighted to start on Saturday and I'm hoping 2012 is going to be a good one," said Basham in the Blackpool Gazette. "It has been tough at times and not everything has gone to plan since I joined the club. It has been a bad last 12 months really, and I wanted to go out on loan and get games. "Now I'm glad that didn't happen. I hope I can get a bit of a run in the team and prove I can do a job. "It is an exciting time for me now and it is brilliant to be involved in the gaffer's first-team plans again."
