Brett Ormerod believes Blackpool are capable of matching their big-spending rivals in the quest for promotion to the Premier League.
Blackpool enjoyed last season in the top flight, but have lost influential trio DJ Campbell, Charlie Adam and David Vaughan over the summer as Ian Holloway continues to work to a budget.
In contrast, the likes of Leicester City and West Ham United have been spending freely in the transfer market in an attempt to build squads capable of winning promotion.
Experienced striker Ormerod is aware of how tough the Championship will be this season, but feels Blackpool can make an impact.
Ormerod told the club's official website: "I've been asked whether we can challenge for promotion this year, and it's a tough question because even in this league you only have to look at how much money certain clubs have spent.
"We've a good squad but it's an unbelievably difficult league. Obviously the expectancy level here is going to be there because we've just come down.
"But we know we've got good players and we play like we do, so if we stick to what we believe in we know we are a match for anyone."
