Seasiders hoping to snap up veteran striker

Skysports.com understands Blackpool have opened talks with veteran frontman Kevin Phillips. The 37-year-old is available as a free agent after reaching the end of his contract at Birmingham. He has no plans to retire any time soon, though, and is hoping to take his professional career into an 18th year. Blackpool are prepared to offer him that opportunity, with his considerable experience viewed as an asset by Ian Holloway.

Proven performer

The Seasiders boss is preparing his side for a return to the Championship in 2011/12 and believes second tier know-how will be crucial. Phillips is a proven performer when it comes to that level, having secured promotion out of it with Sunderland, West Brom and Birmingham. It is understood that he is in discussions with Blackpool and is mulling over a move to Bloomfield Road. There are, however, other clubs in the race and Holloway will need to use all of his persuasive powers to take the former England international to the North West.
