Blackpool striker DJ Campbell hopes to be in the running for an international call-up ahead of England's game against Switzerland next month.
Campbell has netted 13 Premier League goals this season, with Darren Bent the only English striker to have scored more in the top flight.
National team boss Fabio Capello watched the 29-year-old impress against Tottenham in February, but he narrowly missed out on the squad which drew 1-1 with Ghana.
England are back in competitive action with a European Championship qualifying visit of Switzerland at Wembley on 4th June, and Campbell is optimistic of a call.
"I think I was quite close last time to getting a call-up, which was great," Campbell told
The Guardian.
"Fabio came to watch me playing against Tottenham at home, and I managed to score and set up one. It just made me smile to think how far I've come."
Campbell remains focused on his club form, though, as Blackpool travel to champions Manchester United on the final day of the season with their safety in the balance.
Relegation battle
The Tangerines are one of three teams tied on 39 points, with two of a possible five teams destined for relegation on Sunday.
Campbell believes Blackpool have the support of the neutrals, having provided the division with an entertaining brand of football in a rollercoaster debut Premier League season.
And the striker feels manager Ian Holloway deserves enormous credit, even if Blackpool are relegated at Old Trafford.
"It's brilliant the way that we have touched everyone," said Campbell. "I think a lot of that is down to the gaffer's philosophy.
"He wants to attack teams and try to score as many goals as we can. You've got to give him huge respect for the way he's set his team out.
"A lot of people wrote us off before the season started, saying we would only get 10 points, so it's been a great achievement to be where we are.
"I feel proud of what we've achieved. And I think we've proved a lot of people wrong."
