England youth international heads to Oakwell

Barnsley have managed to acquire Chelsea midfielder Jacob Mellis on loan until the end of the season. The 20-year-old arrives at Oakwell until 8th May as the Championship outfit bolster their options in the centre of the park ahead of the rest of the campaign. Mellis, who made 15 appearances for Southampton last season, recently signed a contract extension at Stamford Bridge which keeps him at the Premier League champions until 2013. And the Blues have allowed the former Sheffield United starlet to drop down a league to gain some important first-team experience. Tykes manager Mark Robins told the club's official website: "I am delighted to bring Jacob Mellis on loan to Oakwell for the rest of the season. "He is a big talent and technically brilliant. He's not been seen on this stage yet, but I have no worries about his attacking abilities." Mellis, an England Under 19 international, could make his Tykes debut in Tuesday night's home clash with Preston North End.
