Striker hands Cardiff a boost after scoring for reserve team

Cardiff striker Michael Chopra has handed manager Dave Jones a major boost after making a goalscoring return from injury for the reserves. Chopra had been ruled out of action at the end of August with an ankle injury suffered in the 4-0 Championship victory against Doncaster. The 26-year-old former Sunderland player hit the back of the net on his return as the Bluebirds' reserve side ran out 5-1 winners against Bristol Rovers. With fellow striker Craig Bellamy having returned from his lengthy lay-off in the club's last game against Barnsley last weekend, Chopra's presence in attack will prove a boost for Jones. In a behind-closed-doors friendly at Cardiff's Vale of Glamorgan training ground, Chopra got 60 minutes under his belt in the victory. Jones will decide whether Chopra is match fit enough to be included in his squad for Saturday's Severnside derby at home to Bristol City as Cardiff look to close the gap on leaders QPR.
