Brendan Rodgers hailed his Watford side following the 2-0 victory over Blackpool, while Tony Parkes conceded his men needed to cut out their mistakes.
Watford, who overcame in-form Swansea in midweek, prevailed at Bloomfield Road thanks to goals Mike Williamson and Tamas Priskin.
They are now three points above the relegation zone and Rodgers is confident the club is heading in the right direction.
"I am hungry for success at Watford and the structures and systems I have put in place since my arrival are beginning to pay dividends," said Rodgers, who replaced Aidy Boothroyd as Hornets manager earlier in the season.
"My defence regularly got some stick earlier in the season but we are now looking sound and keeping clean sheets.
"We are on the up and are playing with confidence. Today the first half was fairly even but I knew we could step it up a gear and the first goal mattered a great deal."
Parkes reaction
Parkes felt a difficult week had taken its toll on his players but offered no excuses for the sloppy errors that marred Blackpool's display.
He said: "We look a little tired after three games in a week but that is not the total excuse. We need to tighten up and stop helping the opposition with our own mistakes.
"It was all a little disappointing and I think both managers knew the first goal was going to be the big goal today."
