Rotherham United manager Alan Knill is resigned to losing defender Shaun Barker.

The League One club made two contract offers to the 23-year-old, but the former Millmoor trainee has refused the new terms.

Barker then failed to report for pre-season training with The Millers, with Knill revealing the player was instead training with League One rivals Blackpool.

Knill admitted he could not have offered Barker more than was tabled to him this close season.

"We made him a first offer around May 25 - he wasn't too happy with that," Knill told the Sheffield Star.

"We made him a second offer which probably would have made him the top paid player at the club. Still nothing came back.

"It's a disappointment. He said he wanted to stay but he made no effort to come in, and on Monday, we found out he was training with Blackpool. Then we signed Pablo Mills.

"If we can agree a fee (with Blackpool) before it goes to a tribunal, we will do.

"With the stand that I've taken, I wasn't prepared to be held to ransom."
