Blackpool captain Richie Wellens has submitted his fourth transfer request in the past year.

Wellens appears determined to leave Bloomfield Road after previous attempts to quit the club were rebuffed by the League One side.

On this occasion, though, Seasiders boss Colin Hendry may have little option but to sanction the departure of the midfielder.

Hendry confirmed Wellens has asked to leave and a decision on the skipper's future will be made over the next week.

"We have received a transfer request today, Friday 20th August, from Richie Wellens," Hendry told the club's official website.

"He did come to see us before the start of the season and said he felt it was time to move on but we managed to persuade him against this course of action.

"In the early part of next week, we will sit down, the chairman, Peter Whitehead, and myself and we will review the situation."

Wellens joined Blackpool from Manchester United in March 2000 and he has made almost 200 appearances for the club.

He is under contract at Bloomfield Road until next summer but the 24-year-old seems destined to move on in the near future.
