Dutch club PEC Zwolle have confirmed their interest in Nottingham Forest striker Lars Veldwijk.

Veldwijk joined the Reds last summer from Excelsior, another club in Holland, but has so far failed to make an impression under Stuart Pearce and new manager Dougie Freedman.

Zwolle, who finished sixth in the Eredivisie and reached the Dutch Cup final last season, were linked with a move for the 23-year-old earlier this week and a club director has confirmed the reports - with a loan deal a likely option.

"We are interested and have contacted his club," Gerard Nijkamp told Voetbal International.

"Lars may be rented, therefore it is interesting for us."

Veldjick scored 30 goals in 38 appearances during his time at Excelsior, but failed to show that kind of form in the Championship. In 14 league and cup appearances, the striker failed to get his name on the scoresheet.
