Nottingham Forest boss Stuart Pearce is targeting more new faces

Stuart Pearce feels he needs to add more new signings to his squad if Nottingham Forest are to mount a serious promotion challenge this season in the Sky Bet Championship.

Pearce has already brought defenders Louis Laing, Roger Riera and Jack Hunt, midfielder Chris Burke and strikers Matt Fryatt and Lars Veldwijk to the City Ground since officially taking up his role as Reds boss this summer.

However, the former Forest and England left-back thinks he is still short in some areas.

Speaking at the club's open training session on Thursday morning, he said: "We need to strengthen the squad.

"I look at the squad and think to myself can this group fire us into the top six, or even the top two, and if the answer is no then in my mind we have to strengthen because ultimately that is what we will be judged on.

"So we still feel we need to bring in players in certain positions and we have scouts out looking at players in order to do that.

"We are permanently out and on the go talking to clubs and putting offers in. Loans are a possibility too but Premier League clubs are reluctant to release their players until they have had a good look at them in pre-season."
