Nottingham Forest skipper Danny Collins believes the team have been a huge disappointment this season.
The Reds are currently languishing in 12th position in the Championship, although they have shown signs of recent improvement with four points from two matches.
Collins remains confident the squad are good enough to finish in the top six though and maintain their hopes of promotion to the top flight.
"We have underachieved in the last few weeks, we have not performed to the standards expected of us; to the standards that the gaffer wants from us," Collins said.
"But I can see signs that we are close to getting back to where we want to be and to where the gaffer wants us to be.
"We want to be in the top six. I wouldn't be at the club if I didn't believe we had ambitions to be pushing on.
"But when I look at the squad, if things click for us on the day, I believe we can be a match for any other team in this league."
