Villa defender looking forward to facing Bale and Lennon

Eric Lichaj believes he has the attributes to control the threat of Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon, when Aston Villa face Tottenham on Sunday. The USA international has produced some impressive displays since switching to left-back, and is confident he can continue his good form. He told Villa's official website: "I'm happy with my form. I'm working hard and just doing what I can. The first few games are always the toughest, but when you get a good run it becomes a bit better." Facing Lennon and Bale is arguably his toughest test so far in his new role, but the 23-year-old is not worried. He continued: "For me, my strength is one-versus-one defending, so hopefully I can do my job on Sunday. If I do play then I'll make sure I do my best against them."

Position

And Lichaj maintains that he does not feel he is being played out of position. He said: "My left foot could always get better and it is something I need to work on. But I'm alright playing there - left-back or right-back, I'm fine. "Over the summer I played left-back for the USA, and when I was on loan at Leeds I played there too, so it's nothing out of the ordinary for me. I'm enjoying my football at the moment."
