Watford have recalled Britt Assombalonga from his Braintree loan to give him the opportunity to press his claims for a first-team place.

Teenage forward challenged to secure first-team berth

Watford have recalled Britt Assombalonga from his loan spell with Braintree to give him the opportunity to press his claims for a first-team place. Manager Sean Dyche will run the rule over the teenage forward in training in the coming weeks after his stint in the Blue Square Premier. Assombalonga netted 12 goals during an earlier stint with Wealdstone this season before an equally impressive time with Braintree, where he scored five goals in as many games, including four in his last two matches. Hornets boss Dyche has been suitably satisfied by the progress made by his young charge in his time away from Vicarage Road and has now laid down the challenge of proving he can cut it in the Championship.

Development

Dyche told the club's official website: "We've deemed it fit for Britt to be back involved here now and to continue his development within our club. "He's had some great external influences over the past few months, a taste of what it means to be playing competitively in senior football on a regular basis. "We cannot control every last detail of what happens with our players when they're out on loan, but we do our research thoroughly and we're certain our players are at clubs where they're in good hands. "That's definitely been the case where Britt's concerned. Now let's see what he can do back at Watford."
