Midfielder insists poor run of form will not continue

Gary Gardner appealed for patience from the Aston Villa fans following yet another poor result at home at the weekend. Sunday's 1-0 defeat by Manchester City stretches their winless run at home to seven games and was their third defeat in four matches, leaving some fans fearing relegation. The 19-year-old academy product and younger brother to former Villa star Craig tasted his first senior action for the club and admits the result took the shine off of his special day. But Solihull-born Gardner called on the fans to get behind the team and the results will follow. "There's disappointment obviously but our message is 'stick with us'," said Gardner in the Birmingham Mail. "We'd be nothing without the fans and we want them right behind us. "If they keep behind us we can repay them and get the success one day they want. It's only a matter of time before we get back on track and get some results. "A lot of fans are worried about us getting sucked down but we're confident that won't happen. We have a class manager, staff and players."
