Forest boss calls on board to demonstrate ambition or pay the price

Nottingham Forest manager Steve McClaren admits the club's activity in the next few days is likely to shape their season. The Reds have yet to hit their stride this term, with a 4-1 defeat to West Ham on Sunday suggesting that there is still plenty of work to be done at the City Ground. Forest were tipped to be among the promotion frontrunners this season, having made the play-offs in consecutive campaigns. They have, however, found the going tough in the transfer market, with McClaren unable to bring in the numbers he would have liked. He does still have time to add, though, and has called on the club's board to demonstrate their ambition before the summer window slams shut.

Challenge

McClaren said: "What happens over the next few days will decide whether we can win promotion. Absolutely it will, without a shadow of a doubt. "What we do now, over the next few days, will determine whether we are good enough to challenge or whether we are scrapping to get into the play-offs. "I don't want that so I will be making it quite clear what we need. Deliver it or it is going to be a long season. "We have been saying it for long enough. Over the next few days we will see the ambition of this club. That is the key thing we will see. We need to go that extra step now."
