Championship round-up

Southampton and Derby preserved their 100 per cent records with victories on home soil, as Brighton saw a two-goal lead slip.

Saints & Rams remain perfect, as Foxes are held by Forest

Southampton and Derby preserved their 100 per cent records on Saturday with victories on home soil, as Brighton dropped their first points of the season. Leicester threw away a commanding lead in an East Midlands derby and Barnsley picked up their first win of the campaign. Rob Earnshaw was among the goals again for Cardiff, Crystal Palace's fine form continued and there were stalemates at Ashton Gate and the Ricoh Arena. Southampton continue to lead the way in the Championship, with a solitary strike from Brazilian midfielder Guly enough to see them past Millwall. Derby are the second side sat on 12 points, with rock-bottom Doncaster no match for the Rams at Pride Park as the hosts ran out 3-0 winners. Brighton saw a two-goal lead slip through their fingers at the AMEX Stadium, with veteran frontman Kevin Phillips bagging a brace to snatch a share of the spoils for Blackpool.

Derby drama

Sven-Goran Eriksson's big-spending Leicester led 2-0 at Nottingham Forest but were pegged back by Lewis McGugan and George Boateng, in a game which saw Kasper Schmeichel sent off. An own goal from Hull City's James Chester saw Crystal Palace pick up a third straight win at the KC Stadium. Barnsley picked up their first three-point haul at Reading, with Tykes keeper Luke Steele the star of the show in a 2-1 win as he saved two second-half penalties. Charlie Austin and Earnshaw are expected to figure prominently in the second tier scoring charts this season and they were both on target in Burnley's 1-1 draw with Cardiff. Coventry finally got off the mark this weekend, but they were forced to settle for a point in a 0-0 draw with Watford. Bristol City and Portsmouth, two sides who have made mixed starts to the campaign, also failed to trouble the scorers. Saturday's evening kick-off provided considerably more entertainment than that on show in Bristol, with a Lee Tomlin hat-trick helping Peterborough recover from falling a goal behind to crush Ipswich 7-1 at London Road.
