New Nottingham Forest manager Steve McClaren has called for patience as he sets about the task of returning the club to the Premier League.
Having succeeded Billy Davies at the City Ground this summer, McClaren had his first look at his inherited squad as he took charge of training on Monday morning.
The sacked England boss, who has returned to Britain after mixed spells with FC Twente and Wolfsburg, said earlier in the summer that he plans changes and he will have closely monitored his players.
Former Forest star Andy Reid has already become a first signing, but McClaren is not going to be making rash alterations and plans to make a thorough assessment.
He told
Sky Sports News: "We have said there may be a lot of changes, but they are not going to be all in one day. It's evolution not revolution.
Right direction
"We will build slowly. We will see what we've got, I think that is the key thing. Is there a willingness to work? Is there a willingness to learn? Can they do what we want them to do? Have they got the quality?
"So we will assess the squad first, and then we will build and grow on that."
Reid has returned to Forest six years after earning a move to Tottenham, having previously burst onto the scene as an 18-year-old.
The midfielder, who has signed a two-year deal after being released by Blackpool, believes his first professional club has undergone a significant change since he left.
He said: "I felt when I left the club wasn't heading in the right direction and it was one of the reasons why I wanted to leave and play in the Premier League.
"Coming back and speaking to the manager and speaking to the people at the club, it is on the way up and I want to be part of that."
