Gus MacPherson has revealed St Mirren have approached Rangers about bringing Stevie Smith to the club on loan.
MacPherson is keen to further bolster his squad as he looks to push the side up the table from their current position of 10th in the SPL.
Left-back Smith has been hampered by injuries and also struggled for first-team football at Ibrox.
Buddies manager MacPherson told the Daily Record: "We have made an inquiry about bringing Stevie on loan for the rest of the season.
"Right now we are waiting to see what happens with it."
MacPherson also reiterated his desire to retain the services of midfielder Andy Dorman, who has been linked with Championship club Nottingham Forest.
He said: "We have not had an inquiry from Forest for Andy and we certainly would not encourage any."
