DOUGHTY TO HELP CASH-STRAPPED FOREST

NIGEL DOUGHTY is reportedly set to increase his 40 per cent stake in Nottingham Forest in a bid to help The Reds out of their dire financial situation.

The multi-millionaire is understood to have put together a rescue package in collaboration with bankers NatWest to save the Division One club.

Doughty is said to be prepared to up his stake at the City Ground with NatWest apparently pledging funds to keep the club running until the end of the campaign.

An aditional £6 million is also thought to have been guaranteed by Doughty to clear the club's growing overdraft.

Forest have been on a financial downward spiral since their relegation from The Premiership back in 1999.

Accounts analysed in March showed the club was losing £105,000 a week and subsequently all Forest's young stars - such as David Prutton and Jermaine Jenas - were put up for sale.
