Sky Sports understands Marlon Harewood has agreed a one-year deal at Barnsley.
As revealed by Sky Sports over the weekend, Barnsley were lining up a move for the 32-year-old as they looked to bolster their attacking options.
Harewood is available on a free transfer after leaving Nottingham Forest at the end of last season.
Harewood spent pre-season on trial with Sheffield Wednesday, but Barnsley have moved to offer him a deal.
The move will see Harewood return to Oakwell after enjoying a spell on loan with the Tykes during the 2010-2011 season, when he scored four goals in ten games
The former West Ham and Aston Villa man is expected to go straight into the squad for this weekend's Championship opener with Middlesbrough.
