Bristol City keen to keep captain

Sky Sports understands Bristol City defender Liam Fontaine is in talks about a new deal at the club. The 26-year-old's current deal expires in the summer meaning he could leave Ashton Gate on a free transfer at the end of the season. A number of clubs are thought to be monitoring Fontaine's situation with the central defender establishing himself as one of the best stoppers outside the Premier League. Robins boss Derek McInnes is keen to keep Fontaine at the club and is pulling out all the stops to persuade the skipper to sign a new deal. Fontaine has been an integral part of the Robins' squad over the past five-and-a-half years and has made over 200 appearances since joining from Fulham, initially on loan. City are hopeful of agreeing a new deal for Fontaine and the news would come as a boost as they look to move clear of trouble at the wrong end of the table.
