Bristol City boss Keith Millen has revealed Louis Carey will be handed a new deal at the club.

Sentimentality not an issue

Bristol City boss Keith Millen has revealed Louis Carey will be handed a new deal at the club. The 34-year-old recently expressed his desire to finish his career at Ashton Gate with Millen admitting that negotiations are set to begin shortly. Carey becomes a free agent in June and had been forced to entertain the possibility of leaving the club he has played for 15 of his 16-year career. However, Millen insists that the veteran still has a lot to offer the Robins and is all too happy to hand the loyal servant a contract extension. "Louis wants to stay here and I want him here with us beyond the summer. I'm sure we'll come to an agreement," Millen told thisisbristol. "Louis has earned any new deal. He's kept himself fit and has played a big part for us this year. "I know he'll keep himself fit for next year and concentrate solely on playing football. I'm signing him to be a valuable member of the squad. That's how I see it. "Louis is Bristol City through and through, but you wouldn't give him another year for those reasons. I wouldn't offer him a contract just because he's been here a long time."
