Trophy Southern round-up

West Country rivals Bristol City and Bristol Rovers are in the Southern Section semis.

West Country rivals Bristol City and Bristol Rovers have reached the Southern Section semi-finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy after wins on Wednesday.

Bristol City reached the next stage after a 4-2 penalty shoot-out success over League One promotion rivals Nottingham Forest following a 2-2 draw at The City Ground.

Wes Morgan gave Forest a half-time lead before The Robins turned the cup tie around with second-half goals from Phil Jevons (58) and Enoch Showunmi (63).

However, Grant Holt (79 - pictured) made sure the game went to a shoot-out after the initial 90 minutes when he struck Forest's equaliser against the club he opted not to transfer to recently.

In the end, it was Gary Johnson's side that came out on top in the shoot-out to go through.

Arch-rivals Bristol Rovers joined City in the next round after seeing off League Two rivals Peterborough United 1-0 at The Memorial Stadium.

Stuart Nicholson (29) struck the winner for Paul Trollope's Pirates.

Both Bristol clubs now join Brighton & Hove Albion and Shrewsbury Town in the Southern Section semis.
