Bristol City manager Gary Johnson has denied local press reports claiming striker Marcus Stewart is set to join Yeovil.

Stewart is free to leave Ashton Gate during the summer after failing to impress following his move to the club in 2005.

The 33-year-old bagged just five goals for the League One outfit in a disappointing campaign last term and Johnson has told the former Sunderland star to find a new club.

Reports in the local media suggested Stewart was close to agreeing a switch to The Robins' West Country rivals Yeovil but these have been strongly dismissed by Johnson.

The former Huish Park boss is still allowing the hit-man to leave but does not expect his former club to be Stewart's destination.

"I certainly haven't offered Marcus Stewart to Yeovil and I wouldn't expect him to move there," Johnson insisted.

"Whatever has been reported in the local press regarding his situation is most likely inaccurate."
