Shamrock Rovers have revealed that Bristol City have made an approach for Pat McCourt.

The midfielder has made his mark in Ireland after leaving Rochdale in the summer in search of first-team football.

McCourt has raced to the top of the goal-scoring charts in the Irish top tier, and has caught the eye of Robins boss Brian Tinnion.

Shamrock manager Roddy Collins confirmed that the League One outfit had made an approach for McCourt, and conceded that the club's financial position meant they were in no position to refuse an offer.

"Bristol City made their move last night, they contacted me about Pat and they want to sign him, they have even made him an offer," Collins told the Irish Daily Mirror.

"I don't want to lose the young fella but he is free to leave us and unless we get a new owner then it is hard to see what we can do."
