Swindon Town manager Andy King has revealed lack of finances have forced him to abandon plans to sign young midfielder Bradley Orr.

The 21-year-old is available on a free transfer after being released by Newcastle United and is expected to sign for Bristol City.

Orr is due at Ashton Gate on Monday to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms with the League One side.

But King had been hoping to tempt Orr in to joining his Robins as part of a concerted push for promotion to the Championship.

King, though, admits he is no longer chasing Orr's signature as he does not possess sufficient financial resources to make the player a competitive offer.

"There has been a little bit of a change in fortune over the last day or so," King told Swindon's official website.

"I can now tell you that the lad's name is Bradley Orr from Newcastle United. I was looking at him and was trying to see if I could manoeuvre a deal but it looks like he is set to sign for Bristol City.

"At the moment, the situation is that what I have got is what I have got to get on with now.

"The funds for Orr are not necessarily there at the moment and we now seem to have the squad structure in place and I think that is what we will be starting the season with."
