Robins hails Scunthorpe display

Mark Robins thought Scunthorpe were "brilliant" as they produced an almost perfect away performance to win 4-1 at Leyton Orient.

Two goals by Tom Hopper plus one apiece from Liam O'Neil and Gary McSheffrey gave the Iron victory. Darius Henderson replied with a penalty for the hosts but at that stage Robins' men were already three goals in front. "That was brilliant, exactly what you want from an away performance," said Robins. "There was more besides because even though it was a scrappy game, there was real quality in the goals we scored and the work that we put in. "We were talking at half-time about keeping a clean sheet so if we are nit-picking, we are disappointed with the goal we conceded. But I thought that we were very good and could have won by more to be fair. "We worked hard all over the pitch and we put balls into decent and dangerous areas, although I felt we got given a helping hand. Their goalkeeper was a bit nervy at the start and we were trying to keep the ball in and around him. "In fact, I thought we let Orient off the hook a bit with a couple of set-plays we had after the second goal went in and we were trying to kill the game off before half-time. "We had a terrific start to the second half with a great bit of quality from Paddy Madden who played a superb ball in and Tom Hopper got on the end of it and took the chance. "So overall, I'm really, really pleased. We were superb I and could not have asked for any more from the players." Scunthorpe dictated matters from the start and were full value for their win, playing with flair and confidence. On the other hand, Orient looked a pale shadow of the side that came so close to promotion last season. O's boss Fabio Liverani, whose side languish in 23rd place in the table, was highly critical of his players after the defeat. He said: "This is the worst game since I was put in charge. I saw a team without guts, without heart, without courage, without anything. "Since I arrived, I've heard a lot of players moaning. There is always someone to have a say on everything but then they don't show it on the pitch. So from now on, things are changing, there will be no more day off during the week and double training during the week. "I will be looking to bring players in even though the window is nearly closed. All the players who have been here since July are responsible for this situation and they will be staying here until the end of the season. "To avoid relegation is a big challenge but I believe we can get out of this - but only if we all stick together and we are brave enough. "The only positive aspect from the game was the return of Darius Henderson who has been out since October." Liverani added: "I intend to stay here and I will never resign from the job. "I will be speaking to the owner because I want to be clear about one thing, if we sink, we sink altogether with the players and all the staff, until the end of the season."
