Swann: Scunthorpe future bright

Scunthorpe chairman Peter Swann is confident the club can soon become a force in League One under new manager Mark Robins.

Swann quickly established Robins as his only choice for the job after sacking predecessor Russ Wilcox and while admitting success will not come overnight, he said the Iron's current squad and the new boss were a good match. "I think we've all got to have a bit of patience," Swann said. "But we have got a passing team here and we showed that at the weekend at Gillingham. "I think Mark was quite excited by what he saw. We've always felt that maybe with another two or three additions to strengthen the squad, we would be almost there. "So I think Mark knows which way he wants to go and yes, it may take us a while, but I don't think it will take as long as most people think." Swann said former Rotherham, Barnsley and Coventry manager Robins, who has signed a three-year contract, was as excited as he was about the challenge. "It was a combination of both," Swann added. "I wanted to make sure that he was as keen to come to us. "The question to him was, after I'd spoken to him, 'are you interested?' If he had said then that he had doubts, we would have moved on. "But he was interested in meeting me and that was the great thing about it. We talked a lot about football, which was great. "All the nitty-gritty about contracts and that could come afterwards. You have to invest to bring a quality manager to the club and that's what we've done."
