Scunthorpe full-back Marcus Williams will go under the knife next week to clear up a hernia problem.

The 28-year-old played through the pain barrier as the Iron secured promotion to Sky Bet League One before watching the final game of the season against York from the sidelines. Scunthorpe boss Russ Wilcox has now revealed Williams will undergo surgery when the squad get back from a trip to Marbella. Wilcox said: "Marcus needs an operation. He's got a hernia problem. "He's been carrying it a few weeks now but we've kept it under wraps. We thought it was just a little strain but he saw a specialist last Wednesday and he's going to be operated on next week. "It's usually a three or four week job - it's keyhole surgery. "He deserves to have a holiday first, but the rehab side of it means he'll be fine come pre-season."
