Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws conceded Carlisle teenager David Symington's equalising strike at Brunton Park was the goal of the season.
Symington had only been on the pitch for three minutes when he delivered a thunderbolt, which earned Carlisle a share of the spoils in a closely-fought encounter. Former Carlisle striker Karl Hawley had given Scunthorpe a 52nd-minute lead, but Symington drew Carlisle level with a blistering 30-yard free-kick which gave Iron goalkeeper Sam Slocombe no chance as it tore into the roof of the net. Laws said: "Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say you conceded a goal you could do nothing about. People will look at it on TV and say it was goal of the season." But Laws felt his side should have had a free-kick of their own before Symington unleashed his spectacular equaliser. The former Sheffield Wednesday manager said: "Just before then Paul Reid was pushed in the back and it should have been a foul to him. "We deserved our lead and my only disappointment is that we didn't add to it as we had some glorious opportunities to finish the game off. "However it's another point towards safety and the players are responding magnificently and I can't ask for anything more than that."
