Scunthorpe boss Alan Knill hailed Leon Clarke after the striker's penalty sank Colchester 1-0 at Glanford Park on Saturday.
Clarke has now scored four goals in four games since joining on loan from Charlton.
His 76th-minute strike came after Matt Heath was harshly adjudged to have brough him down in the area.
"That is just what you want from a striker when you bring him in on loan," beamed Knill.
"I know Colchester will be upset with the penalty award - and if I had been in their situation, I think I would have been.
"But having looked at it again on the video I can understand why the referee gave it. I do think though that we have got away with a decision."
