Blades keen to keep Williams

Sheffield United are close to a deal to sign Marcus Williams on a free transfer once the window opens.

Free transfer already agreed with Reading

Sheffield United are close to a deal to sign Marcus Williams on a free transfer once the window opens in January. Defender Williams has been on loan with the Blades from Reading since September. And Sheffield United manager Danny Wilson confirmed he is keen to keep Williams on a full-time basis to provide competition with Lecsinel Jean-Francois at left-back. "We are looking at a permanent deal for Marcus and it would be on a free," Wilson told the club's official website.

Settled

"Marcus needs to be settled, at the moment his career is up in the air, he doesn't know if he will be with us or elsewhere. "Marcus needs that bit of security and we perhaps saw that towards the end of his loan spell when his performances dropped a little bit, but we know what he is capable of and he has terrific pace, along with the ability to get forward. "I am confident of completing the deal in January, it isn't anything to do with the two clubs really, the free transfer has been granted, so it is basically down to the player and us to come to an agreement."
