Sparrow: We let the fans down

Matt Sparrow admits Brighton let down the fans during the 0-0 draw with Woking in the FA Cup first round.

The 27-year-old midfielder made his comeback from a groin injury in a line-up that included six changes from the recent league win over Exeter, but insisted the performance was not good enough. He told the club's official website: "I feel so sorry for the fans who paid good money to watch us and we have let them down. We didn't produce like we have been in the league, so we need to get back on our game. "They made it tough for us by putting men behind the ball but that is no excuse because we knew it was going to be tough. It was like a cup final for them. "Credit to them because they did their work on us but we are a few leagues above them so we should have done better, got the ball down and created more. "We have now got to go there in ten days time which is going to be just as difficult, but we have got to do the job."
