Ridley mulling over options

Scunthorpe defender Lee Ridley has been offered deals by Bradford and Cheltenham.

Scunthorpe defender Lee Ridley has been offered deals by Bradford and Cheltenham.

Ridley has been offered a two-year contract to stay at Glanford Park and he is excited about the prospect of playing for Scunthorpe in the Championship.

But he is also looking to play regularly and must decide whether to drop down to League One or Two.

Cheltenham and Bradford have both been in contact, while an unnamed League One side has also approached Ridley's agent.

"There is so much I have to consider. I will make a decision that is the best one for me and my family," he told the Sports Telegraph.

"Cheltenham is a long way away. Bradford is a lot nearer but it would be a step down to League Two.

"I still have the option of staying here and I haven't ruled that out.

"I have been at Scunthorpe nine years and it is going to be a big season for the club next year.

"To be a part of things would be great but I don't want to be a passenger.

"I know first-team football isn't guaranteed but I don't want to sit on the substitutes' bench. I want first-team football."

Ridley, who started less than half of Scunthorpe's league games last season, is planning to make a decision in the next seven days.

"I don't want it to drag on too much longer," he explained.

"It's all still a bit up in the air but I want to have it sorted out by the end of next week.

"I want to know where I'm going to be playing next season before pre-season training so I can concentrate on getting myself ready for it."
