Rotherham restored some hope at the bottom after picking up three points, whilst Bristol City closed the gap between themselves and Scunthorpe with a 1-0 win over Crewe at Gresty Road.
Before the game, The Robins were sitting six points adrift of the League One leaders, but Enoch Showunmi's 85th minute goal gave Gary Johnson's men the three points.
The deficit at the top was reduced to four points, as Scunthorpe were held away to Brighton in a 1-1 draw.
Jermaine Beckford opened the scoring on 64 minutes with his sixth goal in nine games for The Iron, but the lead was short-lived as Bas Savage (72) fired home shortly after.
At the bottom of the table, Rotherham picked up three vital points against fellow strugglers Brentford with a 1-0 win.
Delroy Facey (13) fired home early in the first half, but Rotherham remain at the bottom of the table and sit ten points from safety.
Nottingham Forest and Yeovil Town switched places in the play-off zone, as Colin Calderwood's side picked up a 1-0 win over Gillingham at The City Ground.
A late goal from Lewis McGugan (85) sealed the three points as Forest moved within four points of the automatic promotion places.
Yeovil went down 1-0 to ten-man Blackpool at Huish Park. Andy Morrell fired his side into the lead on 57 minutes.
Shaun Barker was red carded on the hour mark after picking up two yellow cards, but Simon Grayson's side held on to pick up all three points, keeping their play-off hopes alive.
Cheltenham Town picked up a vital win at Doncaster with a 2-0 victory.
Steve Gillespie hit home on 34 minutes, and Kayode Odejayi doubled his side's lead on 71 minutes with his 12th goal of the season.
Bradford City slipped closer to the relegation zone after surrendering a lead to go down 2-1 to Northampton at Valley Parade.
Billy Paynter (62) gave The Bantams the lead, but two minutes later they were pegged back as Bradley Johnson fired home (64).
Kenny Deuchar grabbed a later winner on 87 minutes, as Northampton moved into 15th, whereas Bradford sit just two points above the relegation zone.
Bournemouth eased their relegation worries with a 1-0 victory over Millwall.
Darren Anderton got the only goal of the game on 19 minutes. The Lions slipped into 11th place whereas Bournemouth moved up one place to 19th.
Tranmere ended the day just outside the play-off zone following their 3-2 victory over Port Vale.
Chris Greenacre opened the scoring on three minutes, before doubling his side's lead from the penalty spot on 35 minutes.
However, the deficit was reduced a minute later as Danny Sonner (36) hit home, before Leon Constantine made it 2-2 in the second half.
Despite surrendering their 2-0 lead, Kevin Ellison (83) put his side ahead once more late on, and they held on for the three points.
Leyton Orient and Oldham played out a 2-2 draw at The Matchroom Stadium.
Gary Alexander put Orient into the lead on 13 minutes, but was sent off in the second half.
Gary Hooper doubled his side's lead on 70 minutes, scoring on his debut, before Chris Taylor (73) gave his side a glimmer of hope.
With just minutes remaining, Oldham were awarded a penalty and Andy Liddell (81) stepped up to convert the spot-kick.
Finally, Carlisle came back from a goal down to earn a point against Huddersfield in a 1-1 draw at Brunton Park.
Luke Beckett put Huddersfield into the lead on 26 minutes, before Joe Garner equalised on the stroke of half-time.
Garner was then red carded late in the second half, but Carlisle held on for the point.
