Billy Sharp admits he will be 'gutted' if Scunthorpe United now fail to clinch promotion to the Championship.

The Iron sit 10 points ahead of Nottingham Forest at the top of League One, with 10 games of the season remaining.

Saturday's 2-0 victory at Brentford was Scunthorpe's seventh win in a row as Nigel Adkins continues his remarkable start to his managerial career.

And top scorer Sharp, who has notched 24 goals this season, concedes it would be devastating to miss out on promotion.

"We need to get promotion," stated Sharp.

"We are 10 points clear with 10 games to go, so we will be gutted if we lose it now.

"No one tipped us at the start of the season, but we always had the belief, and we have a great chance now.

"Everyone has ambitions and I want to play at as high a level as I can. I believe I can achieve that."
