Scunthorpe defender Clifford Byrne is facing several weeks out with a fractured cheekbone.
The full-back sustained the injury in the 1-0 victory over Rotherham on 17th February when he collided with his own goalkeeper Joe Murphy.
He has missed Scunthorpe's last three League One games against Swansea, Gillingham and Crewe.
He returned to light training recently but continued to suffer discomfort and was sent for an X-ray, which revealed the full extent of the problem.
Byrne has now undergone surgery and will not return to action for a few more weeks.
Scunthorpe winger Ian Morris, meanwhile, has been singled out for special praise by Republic of Ireland Under 21 coach Don Givens following his display in the 1-0 win over Slovakia in the Madeira Invitational Tournament.
"Ian Morris was immense in midfield," hailed Givens.
"That's as good a performance I have seen from him."
