Rotherham boosted their survival prospects with a 2-0 win over Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park.
The cash-strapped club are on the brink due to financial trouble, but showed their fighting spirit with success over The Latics.
Ex-Miller Chris Swailes gave Rotherham the lead after 21 minutes when he bundled the ball into his own net from close range.
The game was up for The Latics in the closing stages when Paul McLaren's 85th minute goal secured the points.
Hartlepool remain just above the League One drop zone following a 2-0 loss to Scunthorpe.
Headed goals either side of half time from Ian Baraclough and Matthew Sparrow secured the club's 12th league win of the campaign.
